Yesterday Amazon activated a new feature in their Ring Security System and Echo smart speakers. This allows a tiny portion of your internet bandwidth to be shared with your neighbors in order to extend both your own wifi and your neighbors wifi for those devices.

This feature is turned ON by default, the nature of this being that the more people who use it the better the feature will be. However if you want to read more about this here are a few references so you can make up your own mind if you want to leave this feature turned on:

How to Turn Amazon Sidewalk on / off

  • Open the Alexa app 
  • Open More 
  • Select Settings
  • Select Account Settings
  • Select Amazon Sidewalk
  • Turn Amazon Sidewalk On or Off for your account
