I’m sure you’ve all seen the lawyer cat circulating on the Internet this week, for those of you who haven’t, there is a link is below. I thought it might be helpful to know how to turn filters on and more importantly OFF in Zoom!

Basic (Built in) Filters

  • Once you have opened Zoom click on Settings in the top righthand corner
  • Select Background & Filters
  • Change Virtual Filters and Studio Effects
  • Tick or Untick (as required) Apply to all future meetings

Turn OFF Basic Filters

  • To turn OFF filters when you are in a Zoom meeting
  • Click on the arrow next to the Start / Stop Video button at the bottom
  • Select Choose Video Filter… to go back to the menu
  • Edit as above and Close

Advanced (Snap Camera) Filters

To access additional filters, like the cat we saw on the video, you will need to download and install an App called Snap Camera, basically SnapChat for Zoom! It also works on other video software, Google Hangouts, Skype, etc…

  • On the Snap Camera site click on Download
  • Once the download is complete select it from the down arrow in the top righthand corner
  • Follow the on screen instructions
  • Make sure you give Snap Camera access to the camera, Press OK
  • Follow the instructions once Snap Camera opens, closing and reopening any video or streaming apps
  • Set your preferred filter in Snap Camera, this will be used for Zoom
  • Open Zoom
  • Click on Settings in the top righthand corner
  • Select Video from the menu
  • From the Camera dropdown box select Snap Camera
  • Close the Settings window and Snap Camera will now be your default camera

Turn OFF Snap Camera Filters

  • To turn ON or OFF filters when you are in a Zoom meeting
  • Click on the arrow next to the Start / Stop Video button at the bottom
  • Select FaceTime Camera to Turn OFF Filters
