Have you setup your Emergency Contacts and Emergency ID on your iPhone yet?

Did you know that if something was to happen to you or your kids, anyone can open the emergency contacts on your locked iPhone to contact loved ones? They can also get access to any medical information that could be life saving should you need to go to hospital, BUT only if you have this setup.

Once you’ve set this up on your phone, if your kids have an iPhone help them set this up on their phone too.

Viewing Medical ID on a locked iPhone

  • Swipe up to unlock the iPhone (if it is your phone and you have Face ID turned on, turn the phone away from your face!)
  • Press Emergency in the bottom lefthand corner
  • Press *Medical ID in the bottom lefthand corner
  • The Medical ID screen will be displayed showing some of the following information:
    • Name
    • DOB & Age
    • Medical Conditions
    • Medical Notes
    • Medications
    • Allergies and Reactions
    • Weight
    • Height
    • Primary Language
    • Emergency Contact’s & Phone Numbers (Press the phone number to call)

Setting Medical ID Info

  • Open the Health app on your iPhone
  • Select Review Medical ID Access
  • Then Review Medical ID
  • Add any and all data you want accessible in the Medical ID screen:
    • DOB
    • Medical Conditions
    • Medical Notes
    • Allergies & Reactions
    • Medications
    • Blood Type
    • Organ Donor
    • Weight
    • Height
    • Primary Language
  • Select Edit under the Profile Picture to set the picture
  • Take Photo or Choose Photo (from photos) to add
  • Press Done (top righthand corner) or continue to add emergency contacts

Adding Emergency Contacts

  • In the Medical ID screen above scroll down until you see + add emergency contact
  • Find the contact to add in your contacts list and select it
  • The contact information will open, select the number to use for the emergency contact
  • From the next menu select their Relationship to you
  • You will now see their name in your Emergency Contacts list
  • Add other contacts if required
  • Press Done (top righthand corner)

Complete your Medical ID

  • To complete your Medical ID, review the information displayed on the next screen, Review medical ID
  • Press Next to continue
  • Decide if you want your Medical ID shared in the event of an emergency, select either
    • Share Medical ID Information
    • Don’t Share
  • On the next screen ensure your Medical ID is on, Show When Locked
  • Press Done

Editing you Medical ID

To edit your Medical ID once complete:

  • Open the Health app on your iPhone
  • Click on your profile photo in the top right hand corner
  • Select Medical ID > from the list
  • Select Edit (top righthand corner)
  • Follow the instructions above
