Did you know it is possible to sign your documents electronically? This means you don’t need a printer and scanner to sign documents at home. Especially useful whilst so many of us are working from home and might not have access to these tools.

(These instructions are for those of you using an Apple Mac)

Create your signature

  • Select the Sign button in the center (looks like a signature).
  • Click on Create Signature.
  • You can now choose to draw your signature using the Trackpad or on Paper (Camera).
  • To use the Trackpad, click on the Click Here to Begin button.
    • Sign your name using the trackpad.
    • Press any key on your keypad to continue.
    • If you aren’t happy with the signature press Clear and try again until you are.
    • Once you have finished creating your signature, press Done.
    • This will save your signature in the Preview app for you to use at any time.
  • To use paper to sign your name, click on Camera at the top.
    • Sign your name on plain white paper.
    • Hold the paper up to the camera and align with the line on the screen, it will automatically detect and display the signature.
    • If you aren’t happy with the signature press Clear and try again until you are.
    • Once you have finished creating your signature, press Done.
    • This will save your signature in the Preview app for you to use at any time.

Add the Signature to your Document

  • To insert the signature into your document, Select the Sign button in the center of the Markup Toolbar.
  • Your signature will now be displayed in the dropdown down which appears.
  • Click on your signature to insert it into the document.
  • It will appear in your document as a resizable image.
  • Drag the signature to where you need to sign.
  • Click and drag any of the blue circles in the corner to resize.
  • When complete select FileSave from the menu at the top to save.
  • It is also possible to email the signed copy directly from Preview using; FileShareMail.
