Have you checked your privacy settings recently?

There are often those Facebook posts circulating about privacy, I’m sure you’ve seen them, or even reposted yourself:

These messages are a HOAX, posting this on your Facebook wall not do anything except perpetrate false information and clutter up peoples feeds.

When you sign up for Facebook you agreed to their Terms and Conditions, and by using it you are agreeing to those. If you want to review them again you can see them here.

What you can do right now though is to check your privacy settings and update those to meet your own personal comfort level.

Privacy Checkup

To do a check on your overall privacy settings:

  • Open Facebook on your laptop or computer
  • Click on the down arrow in the top righthand corner of the screen
  • Select Settings & privacy from the dropdown list
  • Then Privacy Checkup
  • From this menu it is possible to check:
    • Who can see what you share
    • How to keep your account secure
    • How people can find you on Facebook
    • Your ad preferences on Facebook
  • Click on any of the options and follow the prompts to review

Privacy Shortcuts

It is also possible to check individual privacy shortcuts, you can review those here:

  • Open Facebook on your laptop or computer
  • Click on the down arrow in the top righthand corner of the screen
  • Select Settings & privacy from the dropdown list
  • Then Privacy shortcuts
